The crowd rose to their feet as Whitby's Jonathan Aguirrez slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ismael Zaldaña. That made the score 1-0 after 3 minutes of play. Félix Barraza blasted a shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ismael Zaldaña having to make a save. 10 minutes into the game, Juan Rey was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Peterborough City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Whitby the free kick. In the 10th minute, Juan Rey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Whitby's Saul Contrera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Orozco in the 24th minute of play. If Nicolás Posadas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mauro Paz in the 31stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ismael Zaldaña, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Mauro Paz who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 32ndth minute tested the skills of Ismael Zaldaña when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Ismael Zaldaña showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Félix Barraza, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. If Alfredo Orozco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Whitby's zone, Nicolás Posadas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Saul Contrera came out of the goal and Nicolás Posadas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nicolás Posadas was the one to do the kick off. 55 minutes into the match, Peterborough City's goal looked a bit too open when Félix Barraza came free, but Ismael Zaldaña reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Juan Rey hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Nicolás Posadas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Saul Contrera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Mauro Paz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Whitby booed when Peterborough City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sarbelio Díaz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alfredo Orozco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 74 minutes of play Peterborough City's Juan Rey was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. When Sarbelio Díaz came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Peterborough City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sarbelio Díaz couldn't finish the play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Whitby fans cheered their team off the field, for while Peterborough City had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
