Hugo Hidalgo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicolás Quijada in the 19th minute of the match. Claudio Lovo's late challenge caught a Newcastle-under-Lyme's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Claudio Lovo helped the player get up and apologised. Nicolás Quijada sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 38 minutes into the match, Orlando Victorino had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Waldir Lozano. Cheltenham City's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Orlando Victorino was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. 44 minutes into the match, Cheltenham City's goal looked a bit too open when Orlando Victorino came free, but Waldir Lozano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 46th match minute, Cheltenham City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manuel Henriquez to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 47 minutes, Orlando Victorino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newcastle-under-Lyme's supporters crossed their fingers, but Orlando Victorino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Alonso Corpeño to strike the kick off in the second half. Manuel Henriquez charged in rather forcefully in the 52nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Nicolás Quijada recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 84th minute, Nicolás Quijada got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hugo Hidalgo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudio Lovo in the 86th minute of play. In the 87th minute Claudio Lovo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hugo Hidalgo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alonso Corpeño received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Waldir Lozano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alonso Corpeño might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Waldir Lozano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alonso Corpeño ran back to his position shaking his head. After 95 played minutes Newcastle-under-Lyme got a freekick which was hit by Edgar Escalante. Nicolás Quijada sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
