After 20 minutes, Marcelo Ruiz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Azerbaiyan and the Wem players grew even worse after the yellow card. After having played for 51 minutes, Alexander Suarez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Azerbaiyan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alexander Suarez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oscar Coria in the 84th minute of play forced Wem's goalkeeper Marvin Zelaya to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Oscar Coria came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Azerbaiyan fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Oscar Coria couldn't finish the play. In the 94th minute, Oscar Verdugo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Wem fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. The Wem supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Wem would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
