Ovidio Portillo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Campos, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Alberto Umaña kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. 15 minutes into the game, Januario Berrueta cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Ovidio Portillo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in Marathón's zone, Dagoberto Sifon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabio Cruz came out of the goal and Dagoberto Sifon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bowburn's Alberto Umaña got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dagoberto Sifon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Cruz having to interfere. Ovidio Portillo didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 26th minute, which inside left pole to 2-0. Dagoberto Sifon succeeded in the game's 40th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 3-1. Dagoberto Sifon might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fabio Cruz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dagoberto Sifon ran back to his position shaking his head. Alberto Umaña's late challenge caught a Marathón's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alberto Umaña helped the player get up and apologised. In the 45th match minute, Bowburn was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alberto Umaña to maneuver through the defense. Januario Berrueta could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Ovidio Portillo made a huge save. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Oswaldo Campos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 55 minutes, Mario Canales mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bowburn and the Marathón players grew even worse after the yellow card. Bowburn's Ovidio Portillo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oswaldo Campos in the 62nd minute of play. After 68 played minutes Marathón got a freekick which was hit by David Erazo. Alberto Umaña recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Eliseo Campos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 74 played minutes Bowburn got a freekick which was hit by Salvador Velis. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dagoberto Sifon got free with Fabio Cruz in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Marathón's David Erazo got a free kick in the 78th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dagoberto Sifon in the 80th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fabio Cruz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. David Erazo hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Januario Berrueta's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ovidio Portillo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. Ovidio Portillo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Januario Berrueta, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. In the 92nd minute Januario Berrueta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidio Portillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marathón's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
