Amilcar Posadas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enrique Mendoza having to interfere. Marcos Boianelli fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Henry Montes having to interfere. If Alfredo Peña had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amilcar Posadas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Enrique Mendoza tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Franklin Fornos in the 28th minute of play forced Alderley Edge AFC's goalkeeper Enrique Mendoza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amilcar Posadas took the ball and in the 29 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Enrique Mendoza. Enrique Mendoza dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Henry Montes made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Alfredo Peña sent off a good shot on target. Marcos Boianelli's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Henry Montes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 34th minute of play. 35 minutes into the game, Ramon Pimentel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Grimsby United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Alderley Edge AFC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Grimsby United's Ramon Pimentel got a free kick in the 35th minute. 36 minutes into the match, Alderley Edge AFC's Pedro Vasquez broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Alfredo Peña could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Henry Montes made a huge save. After the first half Grimsby United were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Marcos Boianelli made a kick off. If Manuel Pacheco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 56th minute Amilcar Posadas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Enrique Mendoza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Franklin Fornos could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Enrique Mendoza made a huge save. Franklin Fornos who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 58thth minute tested the skills of Enrique Mendoza when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alfredo Peña in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Henry Montes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Grimsby United's Amilcar Posadas got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With an all-out effort, Grimsby United's Enrique Mendoza threw himself towards the right post 90 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Amilcar Posadas, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Enrique Mendoza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilmer Alfaro in the 94th minute of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Grimsby United had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
