Salvador Matute tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 38 minutes into the match, Heredia AFC's Olman Sanchez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Salvador Matute narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rodolfo Carballo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Salvador Matute having to make a save. Salvador Matute showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rodolfo Carballo, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 48th minute, Ulises Sandi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Liberia's supporters rose to their feet, but Ulises Sandi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Henry Orozco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The Heredia AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. After 57 played minutes Heredia AFC got a freekick which was hit by Guillermo Lobo. In the 59th minute of the game, Emilio Burgos landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Donald Ortiz's late challenge caught a Liberia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Donald Ortiz helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Liberia booed when Heredia AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donald Ortiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ulises Sandi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Henry Orozco made a huge save. Rodolfo Carballo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Salvador Matute having to interfere. When Olman Sanchez came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Heredia AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Olman Sanchez couldn't finish the play. If Donald Ortiz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 72 played minutes Heredia AFC got a freekick which was hit by Donald Ortiz. Salvador Matute made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olman Sanchez in the 76th minute of play. Eric Sarmiento charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eric Sarmiento the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 79th minute of the match Ramon Chaclar shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Henry Orozco showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ulises Sandi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Henry Orozco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Olman Sanchez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Salvador Matute was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodolfo Carballo in the 90th minute of play forced Liberia's goalkeeper Salvador Matute to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ulises Sandi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 97th minute of the match, but Henry Orozco made a huge save. Liberia's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
