In the 14th minute Romulo Saborio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valentin Matos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Chacarita's Alan Federspiel in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tito Ortiz in the 21st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Valentin Matos saved Alajuela from getting behind. The supporters of Alajuela booed when Chacarita was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fello Guevara didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johan Elizondo in the 26th minute of play forced Chacarita's goalkeeper Romulo Mena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Braulio Naranjo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Romulo Mena made a huge save. Romulo Mena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Johan Elizondo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johan Elizondo in the 38th minute of play forced Chacarita's goalkeeper Romulo Mena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Johan Elizondo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Johan Elizondo in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Romulo Mena prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After the first half Chacarita were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Johan Elizondo to strike the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, Chacarita's goal looked a bit too open when Braulio Naranjo came free, but Romulo Mena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Braulio Naranjo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 56th minute Johan Elizondo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romulo Mena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Braulio Naranjo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johan Elizondo in the 59th minute of play forced Chacarita's goalkeeper Romulo Mena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match clock showed 61 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Johan Elizondo sped through Chacarita's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Romulo Mena. If Johan Elizondo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Romulo Mena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Braulio Naranjo, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Alajuela's Johan Elizondo got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Braulio Naranjo in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Romulo Mena saved Chacarita from getting behind. Johan Elizondo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romulo Mena having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Braulio Naranjo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Alajuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Braulio Naranjo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Romulo Mena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 86 minutes into the match, Alajuela's goalkeeper Valentin Matos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tito Ortiz. In the 88th match minute, Alajuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Santiago Perez to maneuver through the defense. In the 94thth minute of the game Braulio Naranjo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chacarita's Romulo Mena was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Despite being the better team, Alajuela failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
