After 35 minutes, Edgar Orozco mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Perez Zeledon and the Santa Rita players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 34th minute, one of Perez Zeledon:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Perez Zeledon. After a defensive mix-up in Santa Rita's zone, Anselmo Oses stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rogelio Ortiz came out of the goal and Anselmo Oses tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Perez Zeledon's Willie Mendez got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 47th match minute, Santa Rita was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jason Orozco to maneuver through the defense. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Anselmo Oses stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With his leg Herberto Centeno managed to avoid a goal in the 56thth minute, when Santa Rita's Israel Blen fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Willie Mendez hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. Otilio Ruiz hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Vinicio Guerrero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Herberto Centeno having to interfere. Rogelio Ortiz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anselmo Oses, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Anselmo Oses received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Rogelio Ortiz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Felix Arias took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Rogelio Ortiz. Rogelio Ortiz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Felix Arias blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rogelio Ortiz having to make a save. In the 72nd minute Willie Mendez suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Donald Davila fell near the penalty area in the 72nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Santa Rita's protests and gave Donald Davila a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Perez Zeledon booed when Santa Rita was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donald Davila didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Anselmo Oses fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Perez Zeledon's protests and gave Anselmo Oses a yellow card for diving instead. Anselmo Oses hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. The supporters of Santa Rita booed when Perez Zeledon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ulises Lopez didn't get a good kick on the ball. 88 minutes into the match, Vinicio Guerrero had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Herberto Centeno. Perez Zeledon's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vinicio Guerrero was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. When Vinicio Guerrero came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Santa Rita fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vinicio Guerrero couldn't finish the play. The Perez Zeledon supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Santa Rita's performance. The match ended with a win for Santa Rita.
