The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Fútbol Club Barcelona. Agustin Reyes's late challenge caught a Ave Fenix's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Agustin Reyes helped the player get up and apologised. After 9 played minutes Fútbol Club Barcelona got a freekick which was hit by Agustin Reyes. 15 minutes into the game, Manrique Blen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fútbol Club Barcelona's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ave Fenix the free kick. Manrique Blen hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. 17 minutes into the match, Keilor Alfaro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fabian Martinez. Fútbol Club Barcelona's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Keilor Alfaro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Miguel Blen took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fabian Martinez. Fabian Martinez dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. In the 26th minute Cid Leiton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabian Martinez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Fútbol Club Barcelona's goal looked a bit too open when Cid Leiton came free, but Fabian Martinez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 31st minute, Fidel Garcia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Agustin Reyes did an outstanding performance 38 minutes into the match, when he by himself got past the opposing team's defense and with a quick scored 1-3 to the right of an irritated Josue Talamanca in the goal. After the first half Ave Fenix were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gilberto Obando stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Gilberto Obando had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ave Fenix's Cid Leiton suffered a concussion in the 53rd minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alberto Villafranca during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ave Fenix's Uriel Ayala was substituted for Cid Leiton. Alberto Villafranca kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. Fabian Martinez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gilberto Obando, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Keilor Alfaros short, quick shot in the 60thth minute got Fabian Martinez to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Miguel Blen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Fabian Martinez made a huge save. When the match had gone on for 75 minutes, Uriel Ayala took a quick shot and it went in 1-4 without a chance for Fabian Martinez to make any attempt to save it. Gilberto Obando struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Fabian Martinez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ave Fenix. Uriel Ayala could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 89th minute of the match, but Fabian Martinez made a huge save. Miguel Blen was extremely unlucky when he, in the 93rd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. When the match was over Ave Fenix could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fútbol Club Barcelona throughout the match.
