Pingones FC's Elmer Arrieta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Buenaventura Naranjo in the 20th minute of play. In the 26th minute, Pablo Bolaños had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. 26 minutes into the game, Jesus Cisneros was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Nicoya's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Pingones FC the free kick. Jesus Cisneros hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 31st minute, Giovanni Paniagua reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Keylor Borbon. The goal made the score 2-1. The referee ignored Nicoya's protests and gave Emiliano Miranda a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Pingones FC booed when Nicoya was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Humberto Herrera didn't get a good kick on the ball.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Buenaventura Naranjo in the 59th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Elmer Arrieta prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Celso Mora fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elmer Arrieta having to interfere. Keylor Borbon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andrei Paniagua in the 63rd minute of play. In the 66th match minute, Nicoya was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celso Mora to maneuver through the defense. Keylor Borbon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andrei Paniagua, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Keylor Borbon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andrei Paniagua in the 68th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jesus Cisneros got free with Elmer Arrieta in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Nicoya booed when Pingones FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manuel Vanderlat didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pingones FC were victorious despite being under pressure from Nicoya for much of the match.
