Humberto Sibaja could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Antonio Merino made a huge save. In the 5th minute Teobald Podwojski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elvis Borbon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rigoberto Mata kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Berny Guevara managed to get in a good position for a shot. Liberia's supporters rose to their feet, but Berny Guevara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Antonio Merino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Sport Herediano Frances getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Vicente Ruiz hit a great ball. With a little luck, Sport Herediano Frances's Antonio Merino got control of the ball when Humberto Sibaja tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 15th minute Humberto Sibaja shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antonio Merino saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Sport Herediano Frances booed when Liberia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Humberto Sibaja didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 20thth minute of the game Berny Guevara who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sport Herediano Frances's Antonio Merino was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Liberia's Berny Guevara got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Antonio Merino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Berny Guevara in the 25th minute of play. A collision led to Sport Herediano Frances getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Alvaro Carrillo hit a great ball. Antonio Merino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Berny Guevara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kenneth Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Antonio Merino made a huge save. In the 43rd minute, Elvis Rosabal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Sport Herediano Frances's Antonio Merino got control of the ball when Humberto Sibaja tried to sneak it across the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Berny Guevara to make the kick off. After 51 played minutes Sport Herediano Frances got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Lobo. Sport Herediano Frances's Antonio Merino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kenneth Murillo in the 55th minute of play. Humberto Sibaja sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Liberia's Kenneth Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Antonio Merino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kenneth Murillo in the 71st minute of the match. In the 74th minute, Humberto Sibaja ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Antonio Merino was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. In the 85th minute Berny Guevara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antonio Merino saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
