A collision led to Santa Cruz F.C. getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Francesco Quiros hit a great ball. Reggie Mendoza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giancarlo Valdez having to interfere. In the 27th minute, Francesco Quiros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 28 minutes into the game, Orlando Barrera cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Giancarlo Valdez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Raul Centella received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Ramón Trejos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Cañazas's Ramón Trejos got control of the ball when Raul Centella tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Santa Cruz F.C.'s zone, Orlando Barrera stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Giancarlo Valdez came out of the goal and Orlando Barrera tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Giancarlo Valdez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Orlando Barrera in the 45th minute of play. Reggie Mendoza struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Giancarlo Valdez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cañazas. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
