Gómez Abellaneda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Grueso Ronda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 22ndth minute of the game Fernando Miruena who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Manchester United's Gómez Abellaneda was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gómez Abellaneda stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Aurelio Oñatibia's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. After 25 played minutes, Emelec SC's Cortez Galisteo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Gómez Abellaneda came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Emelec SC reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Miruena in the 27th minute of play forced Manchester United's goalkeeper Gómez Abellaneda to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Grueso Ronda took the ball and in the 28 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gómez Abellaneda. Gómez Abellaneda dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. After 37 played minutes, Emelec SC's Venceslao Altares shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Gómez Abellaneda came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Manchester United's zone, Ysmael Torne stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gómez Abellaneda came out of the goal and Ysmael Torne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 43rd minute, Grueso Ronda got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fernando Miruena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Grueso Ronda was the one to do the kick off. When Mario Llorengoz fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester United's protests and gave Mario Llorengoz a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Manchester United getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Mario Llorengoz hit a great ball. In the 56th minute, Manchester United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Aurelio Oñatibia fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After 64 minutes, Zavier Madrid mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Manchester United and the Emelec SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 64th minute, Zavier Madrid hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 65th minute of the match, Ysmael Torne tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Gómez Abellaneda saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Grueso Ronda got free with Gómez Abellaneda in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Grueso Ronda's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 76thth minute, Gómez Abellaneda skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Ruperto Abastas hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. The supporters of Emelec SC booed when Manchester United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Brito Zornoza didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience held their breath when Venceslao Altares in the 90th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Gómez Abellaneda's left hand side. After a defensive mix-up in Emelec SC's zone, Mario Llorengoz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Facundo Otero came out of the goal and Mario Llorengoz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 93rd minute of the match Brito Zornoza sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Facundo Otero skillfully saved the ball. When the final whistle sounded Emelec SC left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Manchester United.
