In the 30th minute Humberto Arango shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pancho Frias saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Liga de Quito's Pancho Frias proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Liga de Quito from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Liga de Quito's zone, Faustino Losa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pancho Frias came out of the goal and Faustino Losa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pancho Frias tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 42 minutes into the match, Liga de Quito's goal looked a bit too open when Xizavier Lodero came free, but Pancho Frias reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With his leg Pancho Frias managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Red Reing's Humberto Arango fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 44 minutes into the game, Nixon Santillan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Red Reing's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Liga de Quito the free kick. In the 46th minute, Aguirre Oria sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Red Reing's Santiago Nurueña didn't even have to move. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After some careless play in the Liga de Quito defense, Humberto Arango kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pancho Frias. The Liga de Quito fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pancho Frias should have stopped the shot. There was no doubt that Red Reing were the better team. Red Reing's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
