Asencio Padierna started the match with the kick off. Joaquin Rusoto in the 4thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Gilmar Zaldain, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 6 played minutes Deportivo Cuenca got a freekick which was hit by Fidel Aenlle. After having played for 10 minutes, Joaquin Rusoto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Deportivo Cuenca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joaquin Rusoto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Camilo Vergara showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Asencio Padierna, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Costante Amondo charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Costante Amondo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Independiente F.C.'s Costante Amondo got a free kick in the 21st minute. When the match had gone on for 24 minutes, Fidel Aenlle took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Gilmar Zaldain to make any attempt to save it. Asencio Padierna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Camilo Vergara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fidel Aenlle recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gilmar Zaldain made an important save on a dangerous shot by Joaquin Rusoto in the 45th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paiva Aberasturi in the 47th minute of play forced Deportivo Cuenca's goalkeeper Camilo Vergara to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 47 minutes into the game, Paiva Aberasturi cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Camilo Vergara was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fidel Aenlle to make the kick off. Gilmar Zaldain showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joaquin Rusoto, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. When the match had gone on for 63 minutes, Asencio Padierna took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Camilo Vergara to make any attempt to save it. The supporters of Independiente F.C. booed when Deportivo Cuenca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ovidio Curbelo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paiva Aberasturi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 78 played minutes Deportivo Cuenca got a freekick which was hit by Gilmar Reizabal. Paiva Aberasturi hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Fidel Aenlle's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gilmar Zaldain read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 93rd minute of play. In the 96th minute Asencio Padierna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Camilo Vergara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Independiente F.C. walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
