Spectators: 7305 (Terracing: 5503, Seating: 1687, VIP seats: 115) Austin Sporting Club's Freddy Noboa started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute Alex Mel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gian-Carlo Unceta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 6th match minute, Austin Sporting Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mauricio Tornero to maneuver through the defense. Paiva Villagra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gian-Carlo Unceta having to interfere. After having played for 9 minutes, Paiva Villagra managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Sport Emelec's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paiva Villagra was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 10 played minutes Austin Sporting Club got a freekick which was hit by Mauricio Tornero. If Paiva Villagra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fortunato Viles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. George Urdiales tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paiva Villagra recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 31 minutes into the match, Fortunato Viles notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Club Sport Emelec's George Urdiales. George Urdiales was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. A collision led to Club Sport Emelec getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Alex Mel hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Xorxe Marisancena during the 35th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Xorxe Marisancena kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Freddy Noboa in the 37th minute of play forced Club Sport Emelec's goalkeeper George Urdiales to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half Austin Sporting Club were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alex Mel was the one to do the kick off. After 52 played minutes Club Sport Emelec got a freekick which was hit by Rixon Reynoso. In the 55th minute, Freddy Noboa fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of George Urdiales, passed just outside the right post. Fortunato Viles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without George Urdiales having to interfere. George Urdiales made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Freddy Noboa in the 60th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Club Sport Emelec's zone, Fortunato Viles stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. George Urdiales came out of the goal and Fortunato Viles tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. George Urdiales showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Freddy Noboa, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Fortunato Viles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fortunato Viles in the 69thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of George Urdiales, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Paiva Villagra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gian-Carlo Unceta having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Austin Sporting Club's Alonso Herruz got a free kick in the 78th minute. Freddy Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without George Urdiales having to interfere. When Diaz Guareña fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Austin Sporting Club's protests and gave Diaz Guareña a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Club Sport Emelec booed when Austin Sporting Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diaz Guareña didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 95th minute, Paiva Villagra made a precise shot to the right of Gian-Carlo Unceta. Austin Sporting Club's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
