Iza Legorburu was out of position in the 3 minute of play, and Jurand Tarasek capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jurand Tarasek really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Marcelo Cardiel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonides Munibe in the 8th minute of the match. Marcelo Cardiel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rey Hergueta in the 11th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 15 minutes, Rey Hergueta put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Marcelo Cardiel. 25 minutes into the match, Independiente de Quito's goal looked a bit too open when Maximo Franco came free, but Marcelo Cardiel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match had gone on for 28 minutes, Jurand Tarasek took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Iza Legorburu to make any attempt to save it. With 33 minutes on the clock, Vela Oliva commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 34th minute, Vela Oliva hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Iza Legorburu was a little too slow when Jurand Tarasek got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 36th minute. The score was now 3-1. Norberto Rojelio hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. After having played for 39 minutes, Rey Hergueta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jardín Demoledor's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rey Hergueta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Independiente de Quito's Marcelo Cardiel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rey Hergueta in the 46th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jurand Tarasek to make the kick off. Alonso Severino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Iza Legorburu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jurand Tarasek in the 59th minute of the match. In the 61st minute, Romário Caicedo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Iza Legorburu was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. With a little luck, Independiente de Quito's Marcelo Cardiel got control of the ball when Alonso Severino tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 65 played minutes Jardín Demoledor got a freekick which was hit by Yaniusky Ormaechea. Iza Legorburu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Romário Caicedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ubendu Carreiras came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Independiente de Quito fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ubendu Carreiras couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Independiente de Quito's Marcelo Cardiel got control of the ball when Rey Hergueta tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 73 minutes, Mario Campano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Jardín Demoledor and the Independiente de Quito players grew even worse after the yellow card. Independiente de Quito's Justavino Gaztelumendi was substituted for Jurand Tarasek. In the 75th minute, Mario Campano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Justavino Gaztelumendi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 80th match minute, Jardín Demoledor was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Yaniusky Ormaechea to maneuver through the defense. Romário Caicedo's late challenge caught a Jardín Demoledor's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Romário Caicedo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 85th minute, Romário Caicedo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marcelo Cardiel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alonso Severino, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. 89 minutes had been played when some careless play by Independiente de Quito's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gavica Casanoves was slow to take the kick. During this time Jardín Demoledor's players had a chance to rest. Marcelo Cardiel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leonides Munibe in the 90th minute of play. Marcelo Cardiel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rey Hergueta in the 93rd minute. 97 minutes into the match, Independiente de Quito's goal looked a bit too open when Alonso Severino came free, but Marcelo Cardiel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Independiente de Quito players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
