After 44 played minutes Sociedad Deportiva León got a freekick which was hit by Marcelo Alcubilla. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Anangonó Jaen stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. But to his dismay, Norberto Archuleta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Lavalle Poo hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Peter Portochao showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ferrer Fito in the 74th minute of the match. If Ferrer Fito had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sociedad Deportiva León's Marcelo Alcubilla got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 87 minutes into the game, Independiente de Quito's Anangonó Jaen nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Peter Portochao made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Norberto Archuleta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Vasco Codina tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 94 minutes into the match, Independiente de Quito's goalkeeper Vasco Codina had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Xines Teran. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
