An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabricio Deaguero in the 4th minute of play forced Guayaquil S.C.'s goalkeeper Xalvador Rodas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Xalvador Rodas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fabricio Deaguero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd minute, Fabricio Deaguero ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Xalvador Rodas was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Rolando Peramato hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Rolando Peramato managed to get in a good position for a shot. Guayaquil S.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Rolando Peramato was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Michael Carbasa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Fabricio Deaguero's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Xalvador Rodas was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. The referee felt a red card was in order, 40 minutes into the game, when Ximun Balza put in a rough tackle. After a rather tough play, Guayaquil S.C.'s Ximun Balza got a free kick in the 41st minute. Matias Hostos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Xalvador Rodas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Guayaquil S.C.'s Xalvador Rodas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Guayaquil S.C. from getting a goal against them. Matias Hostos charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Matias Hostos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 75 played minutes West Town SC got a freekick which was hit by Matias Hostos. In the 75th minute of the match Vidal Goicoechea shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Michael Carbasa showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After having played for 77 minutes, Matias Hostos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. West Town SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Matias Hostos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Xavier Villalambrus hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Ubendu Balaguer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Xalvador Rodas having to interfere. West Town SC's Matias Hostos got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 87 minutes into the match, Guayaquil S.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Fabricio Deaguero came free, but Xalvador Rodas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
