After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Rodrigo Riguero managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fusagasugà F.C's supporters rose to their feet, but Rodrigo Riguero was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Froylan Buenaga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Alexandro Salvia replaced Roque Doles. Nando Ontanilla hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. If Adriano Jubera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. Froylan Buenaga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adriano Jubera, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. In the 47th minute Rodrigo Riguero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Froylan Buenaga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Esmeraldas FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Adriano Jubera made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Esmeraldas FC getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Victorino Vilamajo hit a great ball. Adriano Jubera fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Froylan Buenaga having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adriano Jubera in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Froylan Buenaga prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Esmeraldas FC's zone, Adriano Jubera stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Guter Sanes ran back to his position shaking his head. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adriano Jubera in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. After having played for 91 minutes, Mergildo Guajardo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fusagasugà F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mergildo Guajardo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Rodrigo Riguero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fusagasugà F.C's Adriano Jubera got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Fusagasugà F.C lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
