Deportivo Cali's Cresconio Arriaga got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Deportivo Cali booed when atl.nacional was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Llin Mazarredo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dacio Canel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cresconio Arriaga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Txaran Descalzo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Deportivo Cali getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Etor Yepes hit a great ball. In the 26th minute, Aznar Ferreira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 28 played minutes Deportivo Cali got a freekick which was hit by Cordeiro Sobremonte. 32 minutes into the game, Chaime Elguea cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Dacio Canel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Dacio Canel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cresconio Arriaga, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 41st minute Chaime Elguea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dacio Canel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The long shot by Benito Perma in the 48th minute really tested Ximen Sorribes's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Dacio Canel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cresconio Arriaga's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Tipi Morua received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Ximen Sorribes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ximen Sorribes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Txaran Descalzo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Txaran Descalzo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, atl.nacional's Dacio Canel got control of the ball when Chaime Elguea tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 81st minute, Tipi Morua made a precise shot to the right of Ximen Sorribes. Deportivo Cali's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. If Tipi Morua had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Chaime Elguea managed to get in a good position for a shot. Deportivo Cali's supporters rose to their feet, but Chaime Elguea was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dacio Canel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tipi Morua's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ximen Sorribes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. Cresconio Arriaga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Deportivo Cali supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Deportivo Cali would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
