When Ortle Catiti fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cardinals's protests and gave Ortle Catiti a yellow card for diving instead. In the 20th match minute, Cardinals was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ortle Catiti to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Baiona Carrete stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 71st minute, Peio Cospedal had to leave the field with a concussion. Bastia Lasalde's late challenge caught a Cardinals's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bastia Lasalde helped the player get up and apologised. If Edilberto Logroño had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Edilberto Logroño's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Elvio Ozana was relentless in the 92nd minute of the game. Edilberto Logroño blasted a shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Elvio Ozana having to make a save. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Cardinals walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
