The supporters of Independiente Santa Fe booed when Celtic FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nastasio Hurdinosa didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 4th minute, Nacho Marrero got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nastasio Hurdinosa in the 7th minute of play forced Independiente Santa Fe's goalkeeper Larra Yañez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Celtic FC's Vitor Barrieta got control of the ball when Bras Subiza tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Matias Cachorro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Elvio Mostache hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Nacho Marrero managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independiente Santa Fe's supporters rose to their feet, but Nacho Marrero was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vitor Barrieta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Opilano Areces stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Opilano Areces fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Larra Yañez having to interfere. Larra Yañez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Opilano Areces in the 57th minute of play. Independiente Santa Fe's Tiago Clavijo got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 61st match minute, Independiente Santa Fe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bras Subiza to maneuver through the defense. Vitor Barrieta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adan Tegerina in the 66th minute of play. After having played for 82 minutes, Matias Cachorro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Celtic FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Matias Cachorro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Independiente Santa Fe's Tiago Clavijo got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 90th minute Tiago Clavijo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vitor Barrieta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Independiente Santa Fe fans cheered their team off the field, for while Celtic FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
