The audience thought a goal was coming when Alfred Reisz got free with Evelio Antoniano in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 12 minutes into the match, Heartbreakers's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Laurentzi came free, but Miguel Calero reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 15 minutes into the game, Criciúma Esporte Clube's Paulo Laurentzi nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Miguel Calero made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. 18 minutes into the match, Paulo Laurentzi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Miguel Calero. Heartbreakers's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Paulo Laurentzi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. When Criciúma Esporte Clube's Paulo Laurentzi in the 21st minute got a chance for a shot 21st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The supporters of Heartbreakers booed when Criciúma Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Criciúma Esporte Clube's Evelio Antoniano proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Criciúma Esporte Clube from getting a goal against them. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Heartbreakers's goalkeeper Miguel Calero, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 29 minutes of play, Criciúma Esporte Clube's Paulo Laurentzi made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Miguel Calero was left in no man's land by his defense there! Miguel Calero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Laurentzi in the 32nd minute of the match. Evelio Antoniano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfred Reisz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Joe Gonzalovich fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Criciúma Esporte Clube's protests and gave Joe Gonzalovich a yellow card for diving instead. After 35 played minutes Criciúma Esporte Clube got a freekick which was hit by Joe Gonzalovich. After 42 played minutes Criciúma Esporte Clube got a freekick which was hit by Jann Kaldur. But to his dismay, Bieito Villaurreta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alfred Reisz to make the kick off. After 66 minutes, Mehmet Emin Kamer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Criciúma Esporte Clube and the Heartbreakers players grew even worse after the yellow card.
