The audience thought a goal was coming when Elizardo Beyso got free with Bermund Barcelo in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 16th match minute, Guayana FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Romeo Garmendia to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th match minute, Guayana FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valdo Lejarazu to maneuver through the defense. Erasmo Iranzo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 19th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Bermund Barcelo. Guayana FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 20 minutes into the match, Guayana FC's goalkeeper Bermund Barcelo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Elizardo Beyso. The Universidad de Oriente fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Valentin Oseguera should have stopped the shot.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Romeo Garmendia to strike the kick off in the second half. Guayana FC's Romeo Garmendia got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Romeo Garmendia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Valentin Oseguera was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. A collision led to Universidad de Oriente getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Serapio Doro hit a great ball. Universidad de Oriente's Valentin Oseguera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Romeo Garmendia in the 60th minute of play. Guayana FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sixto Armentia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Salvador Vijil's late challenge caught a Universidad de Oriente's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Salvador Vijil helped the player get up and apologised. Onofre Naveros's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valentin Oseguera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. Romeo Garmendia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valentin Oseguera having to interfere. Universidad de Oriente's Valentin Oseguera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sixto Armentia in the 84th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Universidad de Oriente's zone, Romeo Garmendia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valentin Oseguera came out of the goal and Romeo Garmendia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Guayana FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Guayana FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
