The audience thought a goal was coming when Shawn Fletcher got free with Scotty Aldrich in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Morgan Dobbins hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. When Scotty Bowden fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Welch's protests and gave Scotty Bowden a yellow card for diving instead. In the 22nd match minute, Welch was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Scotty Bowden to maneuver through the defense. Welch's Scotty Bowden got his second yellow card of the match in the 24th minute. The referee ordered Scotty Bowden off the ground. Scotty Bowden kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Hal Glass sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dwight Webster in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Scott Harper prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Hal Glass had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Scott Harper took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dwight Webster, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Scott Harper made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hal Glass in the 42nd minute of play. MONTERREY's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Renato Luther in the 43rd minute. Dwight Webster fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Scott Harper having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Shawn Fletcher to strike the kick off in the second half. Dwight Webster could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Scott Harper made a huge save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hal Glass in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Scott Harper saved Welch from getting behind. Welch's Shawn Fletcher got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dwight Webster took the ball and in the 65 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Scott Harper. Scott Harper dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. Scotty Aldrich showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Shawn Fletcher in the 72nd minute of the match. Hal Glass struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Scott Harper didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for MONTERREY. Lonnie Frey struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. MONTERREY's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
