After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Tom Sutton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Piedmont AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Tom Sutton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hugh Blair breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Reed Novak recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 26th minute, Piedmont AFC's Reed Novak ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Hugh Blair. Hugh Blair yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Hugh Blair showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Steven Dickey in the 32nd minute of the match. When Marvin Manning, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 37 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Hugh Blair was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. If Reed Novak had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Piedmont AFC's Gregg Hare got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Marvin Manning had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Reed Novak was the one to do the kick off. Tampa Bay Royals's Hugh Blair played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tom Sutton in the 67th minute of play. The Piedmont AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Reed Novak in the 88th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hugh Blair saved Tampa Bay Royals from getting behind.
