After 8 played minutes, West Memphis's Alan Rich shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Hugh Blair came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in West Memphis reached it. Merlin Fritz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hugh Blair having to interfere. 13 minutes into the match, Tampa Bay Royals's goal looked a bit too open when Merlin Fritz came free, but Hugh Blair reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 13 played minutes Tampa Bay Royals got a freekick which was hit by Tanner Weber. Tampa Bay Royals's Hugh Blair played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Merlin Fritz in the 14th minute of play. 31 minutes into the game, West Memphis's D.J. Burns nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hugh Blair made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 35th minute, Cary Flaherty ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Val Dickerson was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ward Rosales during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, West Memphis's Ward Rosales got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Clayton Crandall was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 43rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 44th minute Ronny Napier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Val Dickerson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. West Memphis's Merlin Fritz got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of West Memphis booed when Tampa Bay Royals was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Clayton Crandall didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronny Napier in the 52nd minute of play forced West Memphis's goalkeeper Val Dickerson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Ronny Napier managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tampa Bay Royals's supporters rose to their feet, but Ronny Napier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Val Dickerson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Val Dickerson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronny Napier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in West Memphis's zone, Cary Flaherty stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Val Dickerson came out of the goal and Cary Flaherty tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cary Flaherty's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Val Dickerson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. If Tanner Weber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ronny Napier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ronny Napier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Val Dickerson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tampa Bay Royals's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
