But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Trenton Norman couldn't finish the play. 25 minutes into the game, Stanley's Claude Cartwright nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dwayne Knutson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Zane Swanson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Trenton Overton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dwayne Knutson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trenton Norman, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. In the 40th minute, Björn Wolfer made a precise shot to the right of Trenton Overton. Stanley's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After a defensive mix-up in Nisse Johansson Memorial's zone, Claude Cartwright stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dwayne Knutson came out of the goal and Claude Cartwright tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Trenton Norman stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 62nd minute of the match, Björn Wolfer got a very nice opportunity to score, but Trenton Overton was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 62 minutes into the game, Luther Prescott was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Stanley's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nisse Johansson Memorial the free kick. Luther Prescott hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match.
