The referee ignored Marrero AFC's protests and gave Larry Tyson a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Oceanside booed when Marrero AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Larry Tyson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Matthew Armstrong's late challenge caught a Oceanside's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Matthew Armstrong helped the player get up and apologised. After 7 played minutes Marrero AFC got a freekick which was hit by Matthew Armstrong. Sheldon Triplett showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vance Williamson, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. In the 13th match minute, Marrero AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Earl McCord to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Marrero AFC's Sheldon Triplett got control of the ball when Eusebio Courtney tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vance Williamson in the 33rd minute of play forced Marrero AFC's goalkeeper Sheldon Triplett to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 37 minutes into the match, Oceanside's goal looked a bit too open when Gustavo Avila came free, but Kirk Jacob reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Earl McCord had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tyrone Belcher hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. In the 46thth minute of the game Earl McCord who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Oceanside's Kirk Jacob was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After the first half Marrero AFC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vance Williamson was the one to do the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gustavo Avila in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kirk Jacob saved Oceanside from getting behind. Oceanside's Kirk Jacob proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Oceanside from getting a goal against them. Oceanside's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vance Williamson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Eusebio Courtney sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
