The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute, Godfredo Duarte made a precise shot to the right of Willie Banning. With an all-out effort, Round Lake Beach AFC's Seb Nilsson threw himself towards the right post 12 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jeff Betts, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 13 minutes of play, Round Lake Beach AFC's Jeff Betts made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Seb Nilsson was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Godfredo Duarte managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hewlêr SC's supporters rose to their feet, but Godfredo Duarte was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Willie Banning breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 25th minute, one of Hewlêr SC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Hewlêr SC. In the 27th minute there was a penalty for Round Lake Beach AFC. Cason Duff stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Seb Nilsson. 2-2. After a defensive mix-up in Hewlêr SC's zone, Ruben Stone stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Seb Nilsson came out of the goal and Ruben Stone tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Seb Nilsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jeff Betts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Godfredo Duarte had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 42 minutes into the match, Hewlêr SC's goalkeeper Seb Nilsson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jospeh French. If Godfredo Duarte had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Godfredo Duarte was the one to do the kick off. After 54 minutes, Jospeh French mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Round Lake Beach AFC and the Hewlêr SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 54th match minute, Round Lake Beach AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jospeh French to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Hewlêr SC booed when Round Lake Beach AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ruben Stone didn't get a good kick on the ball. Godfredo Duarte who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 62ndth minute tested the skills of Willie Banning when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Jospeh French received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Seb Nilsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Calvin Holman came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Hewlêr SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Calvin Holman couldn't finish the play. Godfredo Duarte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willie Banning having to interfere. In the 74th minute, Godfredo Duarte got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hewlêr SC's Lütfi Yağıztekin got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Round Lake Beach AFC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Godfredo Duarte 82 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-3. Godfredo Duarte's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 86thth minute, Willie Banning skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Jeff Betts recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Godfredo Duarte in the 91st minute of play forced Round Lake Beach AFC's goalkeeper Willie Banning to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Glen Velasco got free with Willie Banning in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Willie Banning didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 96th minute, which inside left pole to 2-4. Hewlêr SC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
