When Jack Clement got free in front of the goal in the 22nd minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Duncan Bryson was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. 23 minutes into the match, Ernesto Goins had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Duncan Bryson. Grove's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ernesto Goins was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. In the 30th minute, Anthony Cutler got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kip Vela during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Kip Vela hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Through an outstanding action, after 33 minutes, Duncan Bryson successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FIORENTINA reached it. After some careless play in the Grove defense, Jack Clement kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Duncan Bryson. The Grove fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Duncan Bryson should have stopped the shot. When the match clock showed 97 minutes, the score became 3-4 when Russ Myrick sped through FIORENTINA's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Maurice Ewing. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Grove walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
