The audience was convinced that Lenny Hatfield's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wilson Newell was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marshall Darling got free with Wilson Newell in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Skyline AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lenny Hatfield was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Skyline AFC's Rickey Bartley got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 81st minute, Skyline AFC's Wally Chase seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Wally Chase the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Skyline AFC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Wally Chase had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 81 minutes into the game, one of Skyline AFC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alistair Cahill during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
