With a little luck, St. Andrews's Donovan Calhoun got control of the ball when Marshall Darling tried to sneak it across the goal line. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marshall Darling could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Donovan Calhoun made a huge save. Sonoma's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jared McMullen in the 40th minute. Mel Redd sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Donovan Calhoun took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marshall Darling, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lenny Hatfield to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, St. Andrews's goal looked a bit too open when Marshall Darling came free, but Donovan Calhoun reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marshall Darling fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donovan Calhoun having to interfere. The St. Andrews supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing St. Andrews would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
