Hallettsville's Roscoe Brandon got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Donny Bates could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Merlin Mobley made a huge save. In the 21st minute Roscoe Brandon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aurelio Wesley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aurelio Wesley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cobi Hampton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Aurelio Wesley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Reggie Wheeler in the 24th minute of the match. When Roy Cagle fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Chivas FC's protests and gave Roy Cagle a yellow card for diving instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cobi Hampton made a kick off. Gilberto Sito might have been able to make a better finish in the 83rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Merlin Mobley. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gilberto Sito ran back to his position shaking his head. After some careless play in the Hallettsville defense, Donny Bates kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Merlin Mobley. The Hallettsville fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Merlin Mobley should have stopped the shot. Todd Miranda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Aurelio Wesley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
