Stevie Grossman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Hinds having to interfere. Ivan Hinds took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stevie Grossman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 39th match minute, San Diego State Aztecs was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stewart Marrero to maneuver through the defense. 42 minutes into the match, Almont FC's goal looked a bit too open when Stevie Grossman came free, but Ivan Hinds reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience held their breath when Wally Swenson in the 44th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Jonathon Evans's left hand side. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The score was now 0-2. When Stewart Marrero fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored San Diego State Aztecs's protests and gave Stewart Marrero a yellow card for diving instead. In the 95th minute, Stewart Marrero hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
