The supporters of Rockford FC booed when Colorado Rapids was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Norman Alley didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dudley Shelton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Denver Delarosa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jack Clifford went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. When Marcellus Mallory fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rockford FC's protests and gave Marcellus Mallory a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Rockford FC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Colorado Rapids were furious when Vincent Black was red carded, 24 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In a very dangerous position, a player in Colorado Rapids fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 23rd minute. Penalty! 27 minutes into the match, Colorado Rapids's goal looked a bit too open when Marcellus Mallory came free, but Tim Moody reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Rockford FC's Luke Dukes got a free kick in the 28th minute. When Neal Dawkins came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Colorado Rapids fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Neal Dawkins couldn't finish the play. In the 44th minute Neal Dawkins shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Denver Delarosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 46th minute Marcellus Mallory shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tim Moody saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tim Moody took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kent Wong, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Kent Wong in the 55thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Tim Moody, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 58th minute, Norman Alley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tim Moody showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcellus Mallory, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Colorado Rapids's zone, Luke Dukes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tim Moody came out of the goal and Luke Dukes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tim Moody was a little too slow when Luke Dukes got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 69th minute. The score was now 1-1. Norman Alley recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Kent Wong's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Tim Moody firmly grabbed it by the left post. Neal Dawkins blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Denver Delarosa having to make a save. When Dudley Shelton fell near the penalty area in the 89th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rockford FC's protests and gave Dudley Shelton a yellow card for diving instead. Colorado Rapids's defense didn't have a chance, in the 92nd minute, when Dudley Shelton scored to the left of an out of position Tim Moody, making the score, 1-2. Marcellus Mallory received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Tim Moody came out and tried to block the shot, but Marcellus Mallory slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 97th minute. The Colorado Rapids supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Rockford FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Rockford FC.
