The Payson fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Everett Newell might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Trinidad Fields. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Everett Newell ran back to his position shaking his head. 22 minutes into the game, Gerald Califf was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Summerside AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Payson the free kick. The supporters of Payson booed when Summerside AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gerald Califf didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 25th minute, Wilbert Craig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Warren Zuniga got free with Deshawn Holmes in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Marcellus Kelley kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Deshawn Holmes made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Warren Zuniga sent off a good shot on target. After 39 played minutes Payson got a freekick which was hit by Rene Deering. 43 minutes into the match, Payson's goalkeeper Deshawn Holmes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Warren Zuniga. Rene Deering's late challenge caught a Summerside AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rene Deering helped the player get up and apologised. After 44 played minutes Payson got a freekick which was hit by Rene Deering. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
