After having played for 8 minutes, Evan Farris managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Griffins's supporters crossed their fingers, but Evan Farris was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fabian Summers struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Henry Salas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Griffins. If Marlon Lunsford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jessie Benson scored 0-2 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Henry Salas, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Bruce Sadler took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 19th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Otis Kuhn. Griffins's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, Malcolm Meyer notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Real Salt Lake's Henry Salas. Henry Salas was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jessie Benson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Griffins were furious when Jessie Benson was red carded, 33 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 38th minute, Earl Barlow made a precise shot to the right of Henry Salas. Real Salt Lake's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. Forrest Valdez took the ball and in the 41 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Henry Salas. Henry Salas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-5. After having played for 45 minutes, Alvin German managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Griffins's Otis Kuhn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stanford Boston in the 73rd minute of play.
