Antonio Root's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dillon Esquivel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. In the 42nd minute, Charlton Maynard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Antonio Root who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 46thth minute tested the skills of Dillon Esquivel when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Dillon Esquivel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Antonio Root's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Wes Boyles, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 66 minutes into the match, Star FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristobal Ivy came free, but Dillon Esquivel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
