To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 12 minutes into the match, Great Lakes FC's goal looked a bit too open when Luther Bass came free, but Wilfred Rosado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 13th minute Doug Bragg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gilberto German saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, FC Barcelona's Sol Muniz got a free kick in the 14th minute. After some careless play in the FC Barcelona defense, Terrell Whitmore kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gilberto German. The FC Barcelona fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gilberto German should have stopped the shot. Gilberto German tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Willie Weldon fell near the penalty area in the 48th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Barcelona's protests and gave Willie Weldon a yellow card for diving instead. In the 48th match minute, FC Barcelona was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Willie Weldon to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Gilberto German made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. FC Barcelona's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Ian Rouse in the 80th minute. Great Lakes FC's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
