Von Sawyer's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lucien Odom read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 12th minute of play. Roland Chu hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. The supporters of Woodcliff Lake FC booed when Ottawa Hills was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. One of Ottawa Hills:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Woodcliff Lake FC:s goal. In the 22nd minute of the game, Rickie Holbrook landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Taylor Kimball hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Von Sawyer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Lucien Odom tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Arthur Rios scored 1-3 in the 32nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Kerry Allen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the Woodcliff Lake FC defense, Jeffrey Pereira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lucien Odom. The Woodcliff Lake FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lucien Odom should have stopped the shot. If Arthur Rios had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute, Jeffrey Pereira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kerry Allen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wilton Ware's shot from short distance in the 49th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
