Truman May made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Vincent in the 4th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Hugh Herget managed to get in a good position for a shot. Springfield Zips's supporters rose to their feet, but Hugh Herget was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Truman May breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 11 minutes into the match, Warrensville Heights's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Vincent came free, but Truman May reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ari Jones received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Scottie Kraft tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Scottie Kraft showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ari Jones in the 23rd minute of the match. Diego Vincent recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Murray Simmonss short, quick shot in the 28thth minute got Scottie Kraft to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Scottie Kraft showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ari Jones in the 29th minute of the match. Jamel Bradshaw's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Truman May read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. Truman May took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego Vincent, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Diego Vincent had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Warrensville Heights's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ari Jones was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Springfield Zips's Scottie Kraft played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Murray Simmons in the 58th minute of play. Truman May stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Diego Vincent's shot from short distance in the 61st minute. Jamel Bradshaw might have been able to make a better finish in the 62nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Truman May. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jamel Bradshaw ran back to his position shaking his head. Alistair Holder hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match.
