The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee ignored Cookeville's protests and gave Kasey Ryder a yellow card for diving instead. 10 minutes into the match, Kurt Shapiro dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Nelson Zepeda, 2-0. Asher Hunter recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Eddie Hubbard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Richard John tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reyes Booker hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Richard John didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eddie Hubbard went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. In the 34th minute, Murray Knapp left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cookeville fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. In the 38th match minute, Memphis United FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Truman Yeager to maneuver through the defense. 47 minutes into the match, Memphis United FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jayson Henderson came free, but Richard John reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kurt Shapiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Asher Hunter's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nelson Zepeda was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. A collision led to Cookeville getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Rich Powell hit a great ball. The supporters of Cookeville booed when Memphis United FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Reggie James didn't get a good kick on the ball. 61 minutes into the game, Murray Knapp was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cookeville's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Memphis United FC the free kick. After 61 played minutes Cookeville got a freekick which was hit by Murray Knapp. In the 62nd minute, Vicente Adair sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Cookeville's Nelson Zepeda didn't even have to move. Asher Hunter struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Nelson Zepeda didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Memphis United FC. Asher Hunter scored 3-2 in the 65th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nelson Zepeda, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 68 minutes, Reggie James mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Memphis United FC and the Cookeville players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Memphis United FC's Reggie James got a free kick in the 68th minute. Richard John acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 69th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Rupert Caballero.
