In the 10thth minute of the game Theron Chappelle who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Carbondale's Rolando Lamb was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Buchanan's Luciano Spivey played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brant Grant in the 11th minute of play. Austin Snow, 19 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Brant Grant in the 22nd minute of play forced Buchanan's goalkeeper Luciano Spivey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Shaun Courtney struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Rolando Lamb didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Buchanan. Ezra Crosby's late challenge caught a Buchanan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ezra Crosby helped the player get up and apologised. In the 26th minute, Terrance Michael sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Carbondale's Rolando Lamb didn't even have to move. When Shaun Courtney came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Buchanan fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Shaun Courtney couldn't finish the play. Brant Grant sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 41 minutes, Trey Hoff managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Buchanan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Trey Hoff was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 42 played minutes Carbondale got a freekick which was hit by Cristopher Heller. In the 44th minute of the match Terrance Michael shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rolando Lamb showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Shaun Courtney was the one to do the kick off. Kirby Britton charged in rather forcefully in the 51st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kirby Britton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 51 played minutes Carbondale got a freekick which was hit by Kirby Britton. Josh Dugan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Luciano Spivey tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 58 minutes into the game, Shaun Courtney lined in a short shot 0-2 behind a frustrated Rolando Lamb. A collision led to Carbondale getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Kirby Britton hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Shaun Courtney managed to get in a good position for a shot. Buchanan's supporters rose to their feet, but Shaun Courtney was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rolando Lamb breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Rene Kirk's late challenge caught a Buchanan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rene Kirk helped the player get up and apologised. 68 minutes into the match, Carbondale's goalkeeper Rolando Lamb had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Theron Chappelle. Carbondale's Rolando Lamb proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Carbondale from getting a goal against them. Shaun Courtney was extremely unlucky when he, in the 75th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Luciano Spivey showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Josh Dugan, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Josh Dugan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Luciano Spivey tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 86th minute Brant Grant shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luciano Spivey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luciano Spivey showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Josh Dugan in the 87th minute of the match.
