Patrick Donaldson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bret Hedrick showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patrick Donaldson, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as HBG Knoxville's Patrick Donaldson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Bret Hedrick. That made the score 1-0 after 10 minutes of play. In the 17thth minute of the game Sid Quintana who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but HBG Knoxville's Lorenzo Cooke was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sid Quintana in the 26th minute of play forced HBG Knoxville's goalkeeper Lorenzo Cooke to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to HBG Knoxville getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Jerrod Salazar hit a great ball. After 29 played minutes Mormons FBC got a freekick which was hit by Sid Quintana. After a defensive mix-up in Mormons FBC's zone, Kermit Crowley stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bret Hedrick came out of the goal and Kermit Crowley tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 33rd minute, Jerrod Salazar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 36th minute, Ted Mullen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. HBG Knoxville's Lorenzo Cooke played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ted Mullen in the 41st minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ted Mullen made a kick off. After 55 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Mormons FBC! When Ted Mullen came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Mormons FBC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ted Mullen couldn't finish the play. Kermit Crowley charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kermit Crowley the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Ted Mullen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lorenzo Cooke having to interfere. Lorenzo Cooke stood somewhat misplaced when Ted Mullen came free in front of goal and shot 2-1 to the left of him in the 67 minute. After a defensive mix-up in HBG Knoxville's zone, Randy Randolph stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lorenzo Cooke came out of the goal and Randy Randolph tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Oren Broussard during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Oren Broussard hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Mormons FBC's Bruce Lester got a free kick in the 84th minute. After some careless play in the HBG Knoxville defense, Sid Quintana kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lorenzo Cooke. The HBG Knoxville fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lorenzo Cooke should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Mormons FBC's zone, Kermit Crowley stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bret Hedrick came out of the goal and Kermit Crowley tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mormons FBC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
