The referee ignored Virginia settlers's protests and gave Wes Jarvis a yellow card for diving instead. Wes Jarvis hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Shane Gamble, 17 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Quintin Nichols showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Stan Landrum in the 18th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the match, Rory Dugan had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Quintin Nichols. Virginia settlers's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rory Dugan was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 25th match minute, Charlotte was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zackary Vega to maneuver through the defense. Alfred Dozier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Heath, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Wilkinson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfred Dozier came out of the goal and J.C. Wilkinson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eliseo Heath sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Stan Landrum to make the kick off. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 54th minute of the game. One of Charlotte:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Virginia settlers:s goal. Wilkinson went, in the 62nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. When Orlando Cho fell near the penalty area in the 69th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Virginia settlers's protests and gave Orlando Cho a yellow card for diving instead. In the 69th minute, Orlando Cho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 71 played minutes Charlotte got a freekick which was hit by Sean Dugan. 4-1 became the score in the 75th minute when Eliseo Heath elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. During the 86th minute of the match Orlando Cho completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Orlando Cho a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 90 played minutes Virginia settlers got a freekick which was hit by J.C. Wilkinson. J.C. Wilkinson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Alfred Dozier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Virginia settlers getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Allan Weathers hit a great ball. Virginia settlers walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
