MONTERREY's Kelly Nesbitt got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 20th minute, Zane Pollard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zane Pollard's late challenge caught a Sporting Olathe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Zane Pollard helped the player get up and apologised. Benedict Owens struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Travis Looney didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting Olathe. In the 27th minute, Orlando Busch hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Wes Cerna came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the MONTERREY fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wes Cerna couldn't finish the play. The supporters of MONTERREY booed when Sporting Olathe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stanford Owen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kelly Nesbitt recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Zane Pollard kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Benedict Owens got free with Travis Looney in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Stephen Hough sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Travis Looney took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stephen Hough, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Julian Hayden during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 59 played minutes MONTERREY got a freekick which was hit by Julian Hayden. Sporting Olathe's supporters stood up full of expectation in the 61st minute of the game, when Odell Pate after an extraordinary solo performance found himself with a golden opportunity in front of MONTERREY's goal. Odell Pate was unfortunally a little to anxious and the ball went outside the goal. When Wes Cerna came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the MONTERREY fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wes Cerna couldn't finish the play. Benedict Owens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Travis Looney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 71 minutes into the match, Sporting Olathe's goal looked a bit too open when Wes Cerna came free, but Erik Gorman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stephen Hough in the 74th minute of play forced MONTERREY's goalkeeper Travis Looney to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benedict Owens sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Erik Gorman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wes Cerna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 90th minute, Stephen Hough got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. MONTERREY's Travis Looney proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to save MONTERREY from getting a goal against them. Wes Cerna might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erik Gorman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Wes Cerna ran back to his position shaking his head.
