Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bryce Rector in the 7th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Travis Looney prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Travis Looney took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bryce Rector, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bryce Rector fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Travis Looney having to interfere. Wilmer Haynes hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Julian Hayden came free in the 15th minute and tried to tip the ball over Dalton Herget, but to the joy of Valdez's supporters the ball hit the crossbar and out. The MONTERREY fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Travis Looney should have stopped the shot. Wes Cerna succeeded in the game's 35th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-2. Dalton Herget took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kelly Nesbitt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Travis Looney made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kasey Molina in the 45th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The supporters of MONTERREY booed when Valdez was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Duncan Sweeney didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dalton Herget showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zane Pollard, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute.
