Spectators: 7624 (Terracing: 5758, Seating: 1766, VIP seats: 100) Sporting Olathe's Stephen Hough started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting Olathe's goalkeeper Erik Gorman, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Erik Gorman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jon Story in the 6th minute of play. With a little luck, Club Atletico Peñarol's Laurence Boles got control of the ball when Benedict Owens tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 9 played minutes Sporting Olathe got a freekick which was hit by Shane Bloom. Jon Story scored 0-1 in the 12th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Erik Gorman, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Gilbert Weston had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Sporting Olathe getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Theo Ulrich hit a great ball. In the 25th minute, Stanford Owen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Sporting Olathe's Stephen Hough in the 30th minute got a chance for a shot 30th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Club Atletico Peñarol's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jon Story in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Erik Gorman saved Sporting Olathe from getting behind. If Jon Story had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jon Story to make the kick off. Jon Story fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erik Gorman having to interfere. After 74 minutes, Quincy Koenig mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Atletico Peñarol and the Sporting Olathe players grew even worse after the yellow card. Sporting Olathe's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Atletico Peñarol the free kick. Erik Gorman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jon Story, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Reggie Ewing fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Atletico Peñarol's protests and gave Reggie Ewing a yellow card for diving instead. Stanford Owen struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Laurence Boles didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting Olathe. The Club Atletico Peñarol supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Club Atletico Peñarol would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
